How do Chelsea do it

Couldn't agree more cuppa !
Nothing will get done again, Lawyers will be over it and rather than pay a fine, balance the books etc they will drag it through the courts until the PL back down. Watch City be firmly in the camp of a European super league now with no financial constraints at all.

Man City have sold more than they have spent the past year.

It's Chelsea and Forest that I'd be looking at.

El Scorchio 1:38 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
TBH they are probably most likely out of anyone to be punished for it as the 'classic' Euro elite rich teams no longer top of the hill will want it- Man U, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid, Juventus.

And they can put one in the eye of the Arabs.

Re: Man city breaking financial rules
I'd also agree that Chelsea and Forest need looking at since their new owners have come in and treated the transfer market like supermarket sweep. I'd love to know how they can justify what they've done under FFP framework.

Forest have signed 27 players in nine months. Chelsea have spent over half a billion in two transfer windows. More concerning than anything Man City have likely done, TBH. Especially Chelsea.

Stevethehammer 1:48 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
Forest must be on the table for the PL to look at
Signing 29 players in 2 windows is nothing short of laundering surely. Yeah they got 100 million or whatever for coming up but so did the likes of Bournemouth and Fulham and they haven't spent anywhere near.
Ayew is going to be on a fair wedge per week and so is Lingard apparently. The likes of Dennisl, Shelvey and Frueler(sp) no doubt got a good contract and paying out Navas's 100k odd a week is going to make a dent. Reckon if they don't push on and become a real force in the next 2 years and they do go down we could have another pompey on our hands

Re: Man city breaking financial rules
I was listening to some football financial expert on Talkshite with Simon Jordan and Chelsea can do it because they have put these players on EIGHT year contracts and was allowed to spread the cost over the contract time. This loophole has apparently been closed or will be closed now. They were saying it's very risky as the player could lose form, snap their cruciate etc, etc, Would love City and Chelsea to eventually get a points deduction and transfer embargo but I doubt that would happen.

Stevethehammer 2:29 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
It's amazing how the powers that be don't think of these loopholes and close them. Surely someone with half a brain who knows about this, writes the fucking rules on it would know that it can be exploited and that is exactly what has happened.
Close the loophole now Chelsea have benefitted when the rules should have been updated when the Russian took over the rent boys and spent money like confetti.
City will have no doubt gone through some loops to pay the extortionate wages they pay, same as Man utd. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they are given a basic wage and the rest is a loan from the holding company of the club. You won't pay tax on a loan and it doesn't have to be paid back. There is always some clever accountancy at play.

Re: Man city breaking financial rules
There is a world of difference between breaking FFP and 'Financial Rules'
But heyho, march on down the FFP route if you will, but it is not the issue here.
They are alleged, to have amended paperwork and submitted known falsehoods - that is potentially fraudulent and also sails close to the Juve situation, which they (Juve) are not denying, just saying everyone is at it
With the talk of PL regulation this could get sticky for City

Stevethehammer 2:42 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
The world of difference is that it doesn't include the likes of Chelsea and City but for the rest of us, don't get above your fucking station and let the top 4 clubs get on with dominating

Crassus 2:51 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
Steve
No mate, I appreciate the frustration but this IS different, potential fraud - serious shit
Chelsea btw have not broken any FFP regulations either, they have maneuvered, and riskily at that, within them - any side could do that, to the limit of their capability

Lee Trundle 2:51 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
As Crassus has said, Man City should be in deep shit for this.

It's not like they've just done it the once and hoped they'd get away with it. It's over 100 instances in 9 seasons.

Crassus 2:58 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
Government involved in it too
Could get very tricky, even relegation let alone the implications for the directorship

Re: Man city breaking financial rules
Surely rules need to be made regarding how many players you can have on your books as well. Stockpiling talent and loaning it out to where you want it to go, just to stop other clubs from having those players, is ridiculously in favour of these rich clubs as well. They have already got their wish with five subs and the rules surely need to be changed to make it a more level playing field.

Mike Oxsaw 3:33 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
Level playing fields do not make for good TV.

zico 3:36 Mon Feb 6
Re: Man city breaking financial rules
That's true Mike. Plus half these youngsters are probably on £50 grand a week on loan in some easy League abroad. No need for them to progress a career.

What about Chelsea?!

Re: Man city breaking financial rules
They'll beat this in the appeal process, same as they did before.

Or they'll tie it up in court for years to come.
